Super Lovers

Super Lovers, also known as Junj Romantica is a Shnen-ai, that’s why it came as a surprise when Studio DEEN had decided to adapt the series for the small screen. Shnen-ai is a genre of manga, devoted to romantic relationship between two male persons, usually of a young age.

Super Lovers were released in April 2016 and produced quite a buzz in the anime-loving circles.Director Shinji Ishihira is behind the anime series, and writer Yoshiko Nakamura, who has some experience in shnen-ai, wrote the script for Super Lovers. In Japan the series is rather popular, being telecast on ten major cable networks. For viewers in Spain and Britain, the series is available on the Crunchyroll network. Now, American viewers can see Junj Romantica as well.

The storyline tells the story of Rin, a boy, who got his upbringing in the back country and was adapted by a woman, who had a son, Haru Kaido. As Haru meets his younger brother, who notices Rin is hard to get along with, and gets determined to help him acquire better manners. However, the only person Rin trusts is the mother, and he has no desire to accept his new big half-brother. So Haru's main worry is how to get his Rin's trust and civilize him at least to some extent until the summer holidays end. Gradually, the boys warm to each other and their relationship goes beyond brotherly love.

It’s hard to say whether Super Lovers will be on air for a long time, as the original manga is still being published, but in America season 1 of the manga animated series hasn’t become a rating hit.
